Metatext criticizes the restrictive text communication methods of existing 2D displays.

This project proposes a high-dimensional communication method that allows more immersion in the experience of conversation in XR situations through possible interactions in three dimensions.

-> Overview
New XR typing system based on NUI

The Metatext Project presents a new approach to text communication experience based on the attributes of the XR environment.

Users will be able to express high-level opinions or emotions through ways that can enhance the conversation experience considering the space, interface, and interaction of the 3D XR environment, away from the existing 2D display's text communication method.

-> Concept 1
New typing process based on NUI

In an XR environment where hand tracking is possible, the output can vary depending on the user's hand interaction. This enables a variety of NUI-based typing methods, such as deeply pressing or shaking the keyboard.

-> Prototype
Interactive typography

The user can output text in various forms depending on the gesture through the NUI.
The initial prototype applied all of the user's gestures to the text. It had the advantage of being able to input in various ways, but it was not suitable for application to typing systems because of its complexity. Therefore, the typing method was unified by applying the pinch gesture of the Z-axis as a standard.

-> Prototype
Interactive typography

As non-verbal attributes can be captured in text through NUI-based gestures, various visual outputs can be produced even with the same word.

-> Concept 2
Texture for text - speech bubble
speech bubble in the environment in which we usually communicate in text serves as a breath that separates conversations. However, due to the physical constraints of the display, it is used only as a quantitative grasp that seeks minimal margin and efficiency in a way that focuses on the display rather than on the conversation itself.

However, 3D space can break away from these physical constraints and transform itself into a speech bubble that can be more communicative rather than focused on the display.

-> Prototype
Text container

Instead of being physically confined to a 2D display, in 3D space, by focusing more on conversations than on the form of the display, various conversations will be possible in a way that has a wide spectrum of output.

-> Concept 3
Interactive emoji

By placing users three-dimensionally in space, interaction between users creates direction and space.

Existing emojis are also not just emotional expressions, but users can interact directly. The various orientations of the conversation and the interactive emoji suggest ways to become more immersed in communication.
